Our RPC student, Jordan, took his first solo flight last week. In order to go solo, a student has to have worked their way through the RAAus syllabus right up to circuits and have achieved a grade 3 on all aspects (such as climbing descending, turning, stalls, radio calls, inbound and outbound circuit joins, crosswind landings, diversions and etc). They also have to have done their pre-solo exam and be deemed by a senior instructor to be ready to go solo.

Due to the wet weather earlier this year, we now have a backlog of students doing their cross country training. We had both briefing rooms in use all day today and this week our planes are flying between Caloundra, Kingaroy, Maryborough and Toowoomba. Our students are helped in their Nav training by the navigation video briefings and the navigation theory book on the GoFly Online platform.

If your RAAus flight school attracts overseas students and you don't have your own materials which you can send them in advance, you may like to consider having your students sign up for a $19.90/month subscription to GoFly Online. The student can get a head start on their training by watching the RPC (or cross country and passenger endorsem*nt) video briefings, reading the growing number of online theory books (Pre-solo, Radio, Air Leg, BAK, Human Factors, Navigation) and attempting the practice exams, before they arrive in Australia. Our student Gary, from Singapore, received access to the GoFly Online videos and theory books when he enrolled in April, started his fulltime flight training with us on 10 June, passed his theory exams and took his first solo flight this morning! Well done Gary!

Congratulations to the 20 recipients of the 2024 Recreational Aviation Australia scholarships, announced today, including our own RPC student, Clara. These students are flying at RAAus schools all around Australia. In addition to receiving funding to be used towards their flying lessons, each scholarship recipient also receives two years of Premium access to our growing number of GoFly Online training videos and theory books, to assist them with their Recreational or RAAus Instructor Rating training.

We love it when students take responsibility for their own progress and book themselves in for regular training slots weeks in advance; read our emails about 'what to study'; then take their exams and watch our videos to prepare for their flight test. It reduces the hours of admin time we have to spend sending reminders to students.It seems like the love is mutual.
